Those unsightly blue lines that have been appearing on your legs are starting to make you feel self- conscious. They weren’t there before! You may be one of many suffering from varicose veins or spider veins, a common condition that affects nearly 50 percent of all women and nearly as many men.
At the office of MOSA Surgery, our team of skilled professionals understands how varicose and spider veins can detract from the appearance of your legs and impact your confidence level. Fortunately, these conditions are usually a cosmetic issue that we can successfully treat with a simple, in-office procedure called a sclerotherapy.
Sclerotherapy involves injecting a salt solution directly into the vein. The solution causes the vein to scar, forcing blood to reroute through healthier veins. The collapsed vein is then reabsorbed into nearby tissue and eventually fades. After the procedure, treated veins tend to fade within a few weeks, although occasionally it may take a month or more to see the full results. Multiple treatments may be needed in some cases.
In addition to being unattractive, varicose veins can become very uncomfortable, causing painful swelling, aching, throbbing, or cramping in the feet and legs. By shrinking the veins, sclerotherapy reduces the effects of vein damage, not only making varicose veins less visible — but less painful as well.
Here’s to your beautiful legs!
