Do you dislike the appearance of your chin? Do you think it’s too big, too small or out of proportion with the rest of your face? A plastic surgeon can perform chin surgery (mentoplasty) that will reduce its size, enhance its size or improve the harmony of your facial features. Whichever procedure you undergo, chances are excellent that the results will boost your self-esteem and confidence.
If you’re contemplating mentoplasty or need any other kind of plastic surgery, know that we at the office of MOSA Surgery are committed to providing all of our patients with excellent care and attention.
One of the two main kinds of mentoplasty bolsters an under-projected chin. The procedure typically places a bone or silicone implant atop the chine bone via a small incision under the chin’s skin or inside the mouth. The opening is closed with sutures. The area will likely be swollen for a few days.
The second main kind of mentoplasty reduces a chin that’s too prominent. The procedure is usually done under general anesthesia and on an outpatient basis. Surplus bone is shaved off, and the chin is formed into the intended shape. As with the aforementioned surgery, this one is carried out via a small incision under the chin’s skin or inside the mouth, the opening is closed with sutures, and the area will probably be swollen for a few days.
For your pre-op preparation, you might be asked to stop smoking, start taking certain medication or adjust your current meds, undergo blood work or a medical evaluation, and temporarily take a break from aspirin, herbal supplements and anti-inflammatory drugs.
Mentoplasty is normally implemented in a hospital, licensed ambulatory surgery center or in-office procedure room. Patients are given general anesthesia, intravenous sedation or local anesthesia.
